Maisel Synagogue (Maiselova synagoga)

The Maisel Synagogue Like almost everything in Josefov, Meisel Synagogue was built by the rich mayor of the Jewish Town in 1592. The original Renaissance building was a victim of the big fire in 1689. A new neo-Gothic synagogue has been built in its place between the years 1893-1905, together with the demolition of the former Jewish ghetto and reconstruction of the main buildings.

Since the 1960s it has housed a fascinating collection of Jewish silver, textiles, prints and books, most of them brought to Prague by the Nazis with the intention of establishing a museum of the people they had in plan to wipe out.
