Old Town side (Staromestska mostecka vez)

Night view The Old Town Bridge Tower is definitely one of the most beautiful Gothic constructions in the world. It was designed by Peter Parler at the end of the 14th century and it served not only as an ornament for the magnificent Charles Bridge, but also as watch tower and part of the defensive structure.

The tower itself has been decorated with three sculptures. The first one represents the figure of St Vitus, the protector saint of the Charles Bridge, and is placed between the figure of King Charles (on the left) and Wenceslas IV (on the right). It is the remaining proof of the respect and appreciation Charles, The Empror of the Roman Empire felt for his predecessor, King wenceslas IV.

On the first floor you can see a short film “Charles Bridge – ray through centuries” about astronomical and astrological relations of the origin of Charles Bridge.
