Dox Gallery

Motto
Today, when more and more people tend to think dangerously alike, art’s capacity to suspend, even for a moment, our habitual ways of seeing may be its greatest value.

Mission
DOX is an independent initiative whose mission is to present contemporary art in the context of issues that shape and are shaped by world of today.

Dox Gallery is significant by the fact it originated thanks to private person. Especially an architect and a design and decorative arts enthusiast Leos Valka, who got his know-how during his emigracy in Australia. “I knew it is possible to run a big art centre, and I only heard to run a big gallery is only a burden. Absurd! It works perfect.” Now he is the director.

The gallery has an internationally manned advisory board, its three thousand cubic metres are to disposal to Czech and foreign artists according to selection of renowned curators. Among them, Spanish José Maria Cano, who belonged to the pop idols in Spanish-speaking countries twenty years ago, from Czech artists respected Jaroslav Andel.

The building complex originates in 19th century, originally intended for metal-works. It was changed by the investment of two hundred millions czk. As th area of the gallery is quite wide, during the Designblok Festival it hosted a few home and international exhibitions and projects. Basically, a few galleries can get in the place, and they also sometimes get. Dox is so called Superstudio.
