Karlstejn Castle - King Charles IV's residence castle

Karlštejn Castle (Hrad Karlštejn)

Another tour for about 4 hours is to the Karlstejn Castle, situated about 35 km southwest of Prague, 16 km south-east from Beroun.

Karlštejn Castle Its history of more than six hundred years is related to the most loved and renown Czech King and Roman Emperor Charles the IV, who built the place in fear that plague would threaten Prague. He used to keep there the Coronation Jewels and decorated the palace in the fabulous style of the time. Nowadays the Castle hosts the worlds largest collection of panel paintings by Master Theodoric, the largest portrait gallery of Czech rulers in the country and the replica of the Czech Kings Crown.


Visiting tours available only after booking in advance. The reservation fee is 20,- CZK per person for the Tour I and 30,- CZK per person for the Tour II.

There are no reservations possible in the castle. The reservation fee is 20,- CZK per person for the Tour I and 30,- CZK per person for the Tour II.
